Social Skills for the Adolescent
Members considered
for this group are between the ages of 10 and 12. Group may be
especially appropriate for adolescents who are described as shy,
withdrawn, or have difficulty getting their needs met in social
situations. Group members can expect to improve social
expression, learn new skills, make friends, and have fun. The
social skills presented in this group are memorized and role played
by each member. A few of the skills presented include the
following:
Joining in
Dealing with anger
Impulse control
Understanding the feelings of
others
Problem solving
Dealing with embarrassment
Responding to teasing
Learning and responding to social
cues
Introducing a friend
Being a good sport
This group is currently open to new members. Group meets
every Wednesday at 6pm in Ann Arbor. Cost of participation is
$50 per session. Families may be able to obtain full or
partial insurance reimbursement, depending on the details of their
policy.
New Social Skills Group
Social Skills for teens 15-17 year old boys.
Skills presented in this group are similar to the above group,
but are targeted to the teens between the ages of 15 and 17.
Other skills added will be decision making with a wise mind, emotion
regulation, and relationships effectiveness. The mix of kids
in this group is great, because they are very eager to make new
friends and are working to expand their social network.
Individuals with a diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome are encouraged
to participate.
This group is currently open to new members. Group meets
every Wednesday at 5:45pm in Ann Arbor with a start date of August
12th. Cost of participation is
$50 per session. Families may be able to obtain full or
partial insurance reimbursement, depending on the details of their
policy.
